The '''Order of Virtuous Saints''', occasionally referred to in shorthand as "The Saints," was formed in Lower [[Caynea]] at least one generation after the death of King [[Gregor Caynea|Gregor]]. The Saints' core belief is that misery is often not a choice, and that every step must be taken to bring care to those who need it. Most members of the Order are simple Acolytes, whose task is to care for those with immediate need, such as administering care to the sick or hungry. Above Acolytes are their Templars, who manage chapters of the Order, and above them are the Saints, the icons of virtue whose deeds shall be emulated by those below them.

To become a true Saint, an acolyte must be inducted into the Order's Canon by way of a test of Virtue, which - by necessity - must be completed in a unique way each time. The test of Virtue is often simple in concept; perhaps an acolyte may be asked to bring water to poor Cayneans, but it is their chosen solution that is evaluated by their Templars and Saints, and by which they are judged worthy of becoming a Saint themselves.

By the time of [[Lynia]]'s journey, there is only one Saint left in the Order, because so few acolytes have been judged Virtuous.
