Shantania/Profile

Since Lynia's ragtag band of rebels is nowhere near the size of the Caynean army, she must resort to guerrilla tactics to overpower larger groups of enemies. Line of sight comes into play during battles with lots of cover, such as battles in forests or indoors. All units have line of sight that extends in a 90-degree cone from where they face, with blind spots forming to the sides or behind. Units' facing is important. Units can only see what they are facing (this is called Field of View or FOV); in addition, Counter skills may not trigger if a unit is attacked from behind. Enemy units that are stopped within another unit's FOV will be visible on the map. If a unit crosses FOV without stopping in it, the last known location will appear instead. If a player unit crosses enemy FOV without stopping, enemies will search the last known location. Stealth is a valid tactic, but certain units with high Speed and low Profile ratings will be harder for enemies to spot.

The Profile stat dictates how noticeable the unit is. This affects a few factors:

  • Enemies will go after high-Profile units more often than low-Profile.
    • Lynia is recognized as the leader of her faction, and will be considered a priority target by enemies if she is within range. Otherwise, stronger units will tend to have higher Profile.
  • Low-Profile units will be harder to spot when crossing enemy FOV.
  • High-Profile units have a greater chance to cover or defend neighboring units when they are attacked.

High-Profile units are not necessarily hulking behemoths. Likewise, Low-Profile units are not necessarily tiny mice or assassins.

Some examples of Low-Profile units:

  • Thieves, who are accustomed to not being spotted and tend to be small enough to fit into niches to avoid being detected.
  • Kellam from Fire Emblem: Awakening.
  • Children.

Some examples of High-Profile units:

  • Heavy Knights, whose bulky armor makes them noticeable and large targets, but helps them guard passageways or other units.
  • Lynia, who is a "target of opportunity" for enemy units due to her royalty status.
  • Loud children.

The Profile base stat is often affected by external factors that apply bonus or malus points to it.

  • Standing on "cover" tiles, such as forests, bogs, pillars, closets, or poorly lit rooms will reduce your Profile.
  • Ordering a unit to put away weapons or counter-weapons will generally reduce your Profile.
  • Altering weapons or counter-weapons' "weight" stats at Teah's forge can either increase or reduce Profile, if the player chooses.
  • Invisibility potions will reduce Profile, in addition to allowing units to stop within enemy FOV without being seen.
  • Abilities like Ruby's "Harsh Language" will increase the Profile stat.
