Lestalian Mechanick School
Located in Lestalia's Great Cavernous City, the Mechanick School educates in the ways of tinkering, smithing, and alchemy, with the primary goal of entering its students into Lestalia's lucrative technology trade. As Shantania's only academy of the mechanickal sciences, the Mechanick School is deeply involved with the technology trade itself, often drafting students to assist with major projects throughout the continent. Students tend to graduate either directly into their careers, or into the Lestalian Foreign Legion, with only a small handful opting to strike out on their own, either as inventors, merchants, or contractors abroad. A few become miners.
Curriculum
The Mechanick School teaches three distinct disciplines of mechanicks:
- Alchemy - The student learns how materials interact with one another, and how they can be combined, distilled, or reacted with each other. The processes of chemistry and metallurgy combine with the process of acquiring elements from their respective sources.
- Smithing - The student learns to fabricate individual machine parts from raw materials, or how to reclaim materials from broken parts to forge into new ones.
- Tinkering - Understanding the interactions of machine parts, the principles of mechanickal advantage, gear ratios, and the design and interpretation of machine schematics and blueprints.
