Fortune-Giver

"I may oppose their views, but I will not oppose them with my actions. This balance must remain steady."

An elderly man who limps around on a bent walking stick, Fortune-Giver hails from the southern reaches of Caynea, and was instrumental in forming Bren's caravan. He has no living relatives, and nobody is aware of his real name, but he more than lives up to his assumed title. A long-standing feud with the Wisemen's Guild has led to him being "marked" by their higher figures, so his identity is kept secret, even among close friends.

Fortune-Giver's history is full of strange exceptions. Although he was born Caynean, his family moved north to Lestalia, among the only human families to do so in his time. He witnessed the rise and fall of Lestalian Margrave Kaze Tirell, and was in line to become a Senator shortly before Kaze's disappearance, which prompted him to flee the country into the Independent Zone. The Wisemen found him at the age of 50 and trained him as a successor to the Guild, but before he was officially named a Wiseman, he used his Wiseman-given gift of foresight to see that the Wiseman's Guild would be the fall of the continent. He could not abide by being responsible for the death of the world, so he left the Guild and used his talent for carnival-style fortune telling instead. He did this for a year before being marked by the Wisemen (his use of Wiseman's Foresight for non-advisory purposes is frowned upon), upon which he fled the Independent Zone to the desert villages just north of Caynea under the assumed persona of Fortune-Giver. After five years just out of the sight of the Wisemen, Fortune-Giver was discovered by a just-fleeing Brenick Fauleen, and they became fast friends. Under Fortune-Giver's advice, the performers' wagon train was formed, around six years before Lynia's journey.

When not in battle, Fortune-Giver lives up to his title with fortune telling for profit (his is the third most popular attraction offered by the wagon train, after Jasmine's dances and Helena's singing). His predictions have an alarming tendency to be perfectly correct; when telling fortunes for outsiders, he often deliberately slips in misinformation, so as to retain some doubt as to whether his fortune-telling really works or not.

Before battles, Fortune-Giver can be called upon for an augury (a la FE7) to warn the player of troublesome foes and give hints on how to recruit certain enemies.
