Discovering the Transfers

The thought kept Lynia awake tonight. Father had always seemed to have two sides; while both were quite serious about handling matters of the kingdom, one side went about it more aggressively, while the other tended to show more compassion. The most she knew for certain was that, any time the King had ever shouted at her or treated her unfairly, he'd made a point of visiting her room to make amends. The light had since left the sky today, but King Bermand was nowhere. This had been the first time in what felt like months that he'd shouted at her, and it felt so much worse than usual. Was the stress getting the better of him? Surely the kingdom couldn't be in straits that dire?

Lynia rolled over in bed, unable to find comfort. Besides Father, the only two people she felt she could confide in were her two servants, Domenic and Ellis, but both of them were orphans, who wouldn't understand having a parent that would terrify them so. Besides, she wouldn't want to worry either of them, when their whole purpose was to keep her happy and comfortable. If they couldn't do that...Bermand would find a reason to fire them. He'd hardly approved of their presence in the palace to begin with.

Lynia sat up, finding sleep impossible tonight. The worries, primarily, not just for herself, but for Bermand's well-being. She arose and pushed open the bedroom window. The night breeze was equal parts comforting and chilling. There was something off about the air tonight. Unable to put her worries at ease, Lynia climbed out the window to the balcony walkway outside, and began to walk.
